Shop Drawings

A shop drawing is produced by a contractor or sub-contractor to show the placement of prefabricated components, such as elevators, structural steel, trusses, windows, appliances, cabinets, and air handling units. They are used by manufacturing trades to determine the installation of metal ductwork, piping, fire protection, and electrical.

A shop drawing drawing shows more detail than construction documents, and explains the fabrication and installation of a particular manufacturer’s product, and how that product integrates with other elements in the building.

Dimensions from a site survey, manufacturing conventions, and special fabrication instructions are included in shop drawings to provide a complete reference for manufacturing and installation crews.

Shop drawings are very useful to estimate the cost of the materials needed, as they help to detect clashes of cable and piping runs, and to coordinate their resolution.

With our Shop Drawings, AU Design US (formerly DFW CAD Drafting) provides a complete solution.
